My Story

I founded Gastro Girl in 2007, beginning as a digestive health blog created from a simple but important realization: too many people navigating gastrointestinal conditions felt alone, unheard, and overwhelmed by a lack of accessible, trustworthy information. At the time, conversations around digestive health were far less visible than they are today. Patients often struggled silently, searching for answers, support, and guidance while trying to navigate complex healthcare experiences and conflicting information online. Before founding Gastro Girl, I worked in healthcare communications and journalism, including roles on Capitol Hill and within leading healthcare technology start-ups. During my time with the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), I helped lead patient education and digital communication initiatives focused on making complex digestive health information more accessible and engaging for patients and healthcare professionals alike.
With a background in healthcare communications, digital media, and patient education, I saw an opportunity to help bridge gaps between patients, healthcare providers, advocacy organizations, and industry stakeholders through trusted, evidence-based education and meaningful conversations.
Over the years, Gastro Girl evolved from a blog into a recognized digestive health education and patient engagement platform featuring podcasts, expert interviews, digital education initiatives, collaborative programs, and strategic partnerships across the GI community. As digital health and patient expectations evolved, so did Gastro Girl. The platform expanded to include expert-led educational programming, digital patient engagement initiatives, and innovative tools designed to help patients access trusted digestive health information more easily. Most recently, this has included the evolution of AI-powered patient education experiences focused on delivering evidence-based digestive health guidance in a more accessible and personalized way.Through this work, I developed a deep understanding of the broader digestive health ecosystem — including the opportunities and challenges surrounding patient engagement, healthcare communication, education, collaboration, and trust-building in an increasingly fragmented landscape.Today, in addition to leading Gastro Girl, I work with healthcare organizations, industry partners, and GI leaders as a strategic advisor focused on creating more connected, patient-centered, and impactful approaches to digestive health education and engagement.
